Three Frames

There are three "frames" or stories I use to think about this project:

  1. Ecological Harmony — The first, of course, is a response to climate change and technological development. We should live in harmony with Nature because it's the way to prevent the overheating of the Earth due to the Greenhouse Effect and other ecological disasters like pollution. We have the ability to live without destroying the ecosystem, so there's really no good reason not to, especially since we go with it if we manage to wreck it.
  2. Survive and Rebuild — Some might call this "disaster preparation" but as a sci-fi fan I prefer to think of it in terms of Asimov's Foundation novels (which might seem a bit pretentious, but I don't mean it that way.) Anyway, the point is that we can increase the general resilience of our complex global civilization by making the tools and knowledge to recreate it more commonplace.
  3. Space Colony — What will it be like to build new civilizations on new worlds out in space?
